Vibrant Colors of Burano - Colourful Houses 1

The different, mostly vibrant colors of the houses, which today represent the main feature of Burano, were once useful for demarcating property. However, an ancient legend says that fishermen painted their houses so that they could be seen from afar when they went for fishing. There is even a house color committee that approves whether the newly chosen color is acceptable. The picturesque island of a small area is actually a group of several smaller islands that are connected by bridges. Less than three thousand people live here, but in the summer the island is much more populated, mainly thanks to tourists. The island is nicknamed the "Oasis of Calm" because it is not so busy compared to Venice. Vibrantly colored buildings in shades of blue and red line a charming cobblestone street under a clear blue sky. An old street water pump stands prominently in the foreground, adding to the quaint and picturesque atmosphere of the scene.
